U10
RULES AND INSTRUCTIONS TO REFEREES
U10 format
is 9v9 with a goalie. Games are two 25 minute halves.
Field should be 75 to 80 yards long and 30 to 35 yards wide. A single
box 12 to 15 yards from the end line should be pitched.
The laws of the game apply, including offside, with these modifications:
1. All free kicks are indirect. This means that there are no penalty
kicks.
2. For a violation in the area that would otherwise be a penalty kick,
the refree may use discretion in the placement of the ball. Since a
wall is allowed, there may be no goal-scoring chance if the ball is
placed too close to the goal. The referee may move the ball farther
away from the goal to allow a scoring opportunity.
3. Walls do not have to be 10 yards from the ball, due to the reduced
size of the field. Referee's discretion, but 6 to 8 yards is apprpriate.
4. Two tries are allowed on a throw-in, but it must be the same player.
5. All goal kicks are to be taken from the top of the marked box.
6. Safety of the players is of primary concern. While we still want
to keep adults from running onto the field when a player appears to
be injured, the game can be stopped without a dead ball situation if
the referee believes that there is an injured player who needs attention.
7. A player who is on the ground should not be allowed to play the ball
regardless of the circumstances. The next time there is a player on
the ground, it may represent a dangerous situation, and the players
should become accustomed to hearing a whistle whenever anyone falls
near the ball.
8. Advantage should not be given if the foul results in an apparent
injury.
