weekend of 8/16-17. In the first game the Mavericks defeated the Alameda
Stormtroopers by a score of 2-0. In their next game the Mavericks beat
the Hayward Taz 3-1. The Mavericks closed the preliminary round
with a win over the MVLA Diamonds 5-0. In the championship game the

U12B class 3 San Pablo Cougars, coached by Evelio
Perez finished first at the Vacaville Summer Heat tournament held the
weekend of 8/16-17. The Cougars started the tournament on the wrong
foot by losing to the Vacaville America 3-2 after taking an early lead
of 2-0. But the San Pablo boys closed the preliminary round strong and
defeated the Vacaville Arsenal and Folsom Blast, 2-1 and 3-0, respectively.
In the championship game the San Pablo Cougars prevailed over the El
Dorado Firestorm by a score of 1-0 on a goal scored by Evelio J. Perez.
U-17
Boys Mavericks, coached by Rene Garcia took first place
out of a field of 12 teams at the 21st annual South San Jose Invitational
at Morgan Hill this past weekend. The squad of only 12 players won all
their games despite numerous minor injuries and other hardships.
The final championship game against De Anza FC, tied 1 to 1 at the end
of regular play, went to two 10 minute OT periods, and then to PK's.
By
the end, the sidelines were filled with parents, tournament officials,
and off- duty referees who all watched as goalie Fernando Ochoa made
two
spetacular saves, winning the game!
Congratulations
to Robert Sackey and his U-14 Girls Mavericks
for their 3rd place finish at the San Francisco Cup. The team went undefeated
over 4 games surrendering only 1 goal, and defeating two strong teams
from Southern California.
Congratulations
Mavericks International U16 Boys
Coach Rene Garcia's Mavericks International U16 Boys fought their way
into
the finals of the prestigious San Diego Nomads Memorial Day Tournament
(2003) last
weekend, only to fall in a closely contested 1-0 game to the host club.
On their
way to the finals, the team beat the San Diego Atlas 6-1, CV Manchester
3-2
(after trailing 2-0 at the half), and Cavitt Academy Boca Juniors 6-5
(on penalties after a 1-1 regulation draw).
The final could
have gone either way. The Mavericks pressured the larger
Nomads throughout, and missed several excellent chances. Finally, the
home team
scored off a corner kick with ten minutes remaining, and were able to
play out
the clock. During the course of the game, several fouls against the
Mavericks in the attacking end (one in the penalty area with only minutes
remaining)
went uncalled, leaving parents to question their faith in a soccer god.
As U17s, Mavericks International hope to be playing in a combined "platinum"
flight next fall of teams from Districts 4 and 5.

Class 1 Select competitive teams for U11 and older age groups. It is
held at various field venues around Central and Northern California.
Teams representing various leagues from the 9 Districts of CYSA North
apply to participate in this tournament. The U11 to U13 teams play in
January and February, while the U14 and older teams play in March and
April. Several teams from ACCYSLâs competitive program are participating
in the State Cup Tournament. The U11 to U13 team summaries for the first
round played on January 18 and 19 are presented below. The second round,
Round of 16, is scheduled for 2/15 with the Quarterfinals on 2/22, the
semi-finals on 2/23, and the final on March 2 in Petaluma.
The
U11 Girls ACC Mavericks
coached by Regina Holan with Larry Barone traveled to Castro Valley
for their first appearance at State Cup. Up first was Santa Rosa United
Fire which saw the Mavericks control much of the match due mainly to
a strong back line that smothered most attacks before they became dangerous.
The Maverick girls found the back of the net and came away with a well
earned 1 ö 0 victory. A few hours later the Mavericks took on the SACYSL
California Northstars and played a competitive match to a scoreless
tie. In their final match of the first round, the Mavericks fell to
the strong play of the Lamorinda Shooting Stars who advanced to the
second round. There were 52 teams participating in this age/gender bracket.
The
U12 Girls ACC Mavericks
coached by Dusko Rosic with help from Ted Tanaka played a couple tough
matches losing to the FC Fremont Flash and the North Fresno Cyclone
United in their first matches before losing a close heartbreaker 1 to
0 to the Capital Valley Crossfire in the final first round match. The
North Fresno Cycloneâs advanced to the second round. 50 U12 Girls teams
participated.
The
U13 Girls ACC Mavericks
coached by Robert Sackey blasted the Mount Hamilton Blast 3 nothing
but fell to the San Juan Spirits and San Francisco Shooting Stars in
hotly contested matches. The San Juan Spirits advanced to the second
round. 60 U13 Girls teams entered this tournament.
The
U11 Boys ACC Mavericks
coached by Arturo Perez made their first State Cup appearance by traveling
to Castro Valley to take on the Lamorinda Blaze, Bullard Flyers, and
the San Ramon Gunners. The first match against Lamorinda was blazing
with offensive display. Lamorinda jumped out to a 3-0 lead scoring goals
in the second, fourth and eleventh minutes. In the seventeenth minute,
the Maverickâs David sent a corner kick into the box that Victor Munoz
struck home. Victor than immediately stripped the ball from the Lamorinda
center midfielder on the ensuing kickoff and beat several defenders
by dribbling into the box before striking a ball that found the back
of the net. Lamorinda struck back thirty seconds later with a nice pass
from midfield to one of their fast running forwards. The second half
saw more even play and the Mavericks had several nice chances to score
with one ball finding the net in a 6 to 3 loss. The second match saw
the Mavericks and the Bullard Flyers play to a spirited 2-2 tie. In
the final first round match, the mavericks were barely outgunned by
San Ramon 2 to 1. Lamorinda advanced to the second round in this bracket
featuring a total of 63 teams.
The
U12 Boys ACC Mavericks coached by Oscar Hernandez took on the
Roosevelt Revolution in their first match which saw hotly contested
play and a narrow loss by the Mavericks. In a competitive second match,
the Mavericks earned a 0 ö 0 tie against the San Jose E.V. Jaguars who
advanced to the second round by beating the Revolution 3 to nothing.
59 teams entered the U12 Boys bracket this year.
The
U13 Boys ACC Mavericks
coached by Hector Morales traveled to Castro Valley to take on the De
Anza Heaters in a game that the Mavericks showed better but missed several
excellent scoring opportunities and came away with a 3 all tie. Next
up was the Walnut Creek Victory which did not live up to their name
as the Mavericks took the match 2 to 1. The final match pitted the mavericks
against the SCC Assault in a intense contest that ended tied at one.
This put the Mavericks in a tie for first with SCC Assault at 1 win
and two ties. Both teams had the same goals for and goals against. A
penalty shootout was used to determine which team would advance which
was won by the Assault. 68 teams participated in first round play of
the U13 Boys bracket.
2003
- Class 3 - Chevrolet Association Cup
The Chevrolet Association Cup is Northern California's annual tournament
for Class 3 Intermediate Level competitive teams at the U12 and older
age groups. Class 3 teams representing various leagues from the 9 CYSA
North Districts apply for participation in this tournament. The U12
and U14 teams play in January while the U16 and U19 teams play about
a month later. Several U12 and U14 ACCYSL teams participated in this
tournament which was held at various field venues in Northern California.
The
U12 Girls ACC
Mavericks coached by John Baker competed on Saturday and Sunday, Jan.
4 and 5, at the Morgan Hill Soccer complex south of San Jose, California
for their first ever appearance in the Association Cup. First up were
the San Ramon Mavericks, a team of a different breed, which played a
tough match out running ACC for the win. The San Ramon Mavericks advanced
to the semi-finals before being knocked out of the tournament. On Sunday
morning the ACC Maverick girls played another tough match in losing
to the Visalia Freedom. In a close match on Sunday afternoon, the girls
barely lost to County Line The Heat 1 to 0 while showing their Maverick
spirit. There were 58 teams representing the U12 Girls Class 3 teams.
The
U14 Girls ACC Mavericks
coached by Jim Broshar traveled to Fremont to play the Folsom Heat in
the first of their three 1st round matches. The Folsom Heat tallied
a 5 - 1 victory over the Mavericks and went on to become the 2003 U14
Girls Champions. In a hotly contested second match, the Maverick girls
lost to the Novato United FC 3 ö 1. In Sundayâs final first round match,
the Mavericks played smartly to a well earned tie with the Sunnyvale
Roadrunners 88, one all. 58 teams participated in the U14 Girls Bracket.
The
U12 Boys ACC San Pablo Cosmos
coached by Indalecio Pablano with assistance from Evelio Perez went
to the Central Valleyâs Lemoore Soccer Complex and nearly went the distance
in the tournament. In their first match of the first round, the Cosmos
blanked the Arcata Lightning 4 zip. The Cosmos then went galactic against
the Visalia United Patriots for a 8 nothing victory. The Cosmos completed
the first round with no goals allowed by squelching the Redding Wildfire
5 to zip to advance to the Round of 16 where they tallied a 4 ö 1 victory
over the Southern Alameda County Raiders. In the quarter finals, the
San Pablo boys smartly handled the Diablo Valley Strikers 4 to 1 to
advance to the semi-final round. A first minute goal on a defensive
misplay gave the Eureka Attack a 1 ö 0 lead and hid the fact that the
Cosmos controlled the match thereafter. That one goal held as the Cosmos
could not find the back of the net. The Eureka Attack were the eventual
2003 U12 Boys Champions as they stopped the Cosmos advance to the finals,
this year. Forty teams participated in the U12 Boys bracket.
The
U14 Boys ACC San Pablo Panthers
coached by Hector Alvarez traveled to the Cherry Island Soccer Complex
for their three first round matches. First up were the South San Francisco
South City Boys who couldnât tame the Panthers falling 4 to 0. The second
match against the Oakdale Storm saw lightning offensive displays by
both teams with the Panthers suffering a 5 to 4 loss in the end. In
their final first round match, the Panthers played competitively in
another offensively dominated match tallying a 4 to 4 tie with Half
Moon Bay Los Altenitos who advanced all the way to the quarter finals.
Forty teams participated in the U14 Boys bracket.
OCTOBER 27, 2002,
LODI, CALIFORNIA
The Under-13 Mavericks Girls of
the Alameda-Contra Costa Youth Soccer League won the championship game
of the Lodi Referee's Fall Classic soccer tournament in a penalty shootout
last Sunday. Goalie Alexandra Krzyzosiak made two fine saves in the
shootout to provide the winning margin, as Phoebe White, Paige Freiberger,
Megan Moss and Zulma Munoz converted their kicks to carry their team
past the runner-up Mustang Flash of Danville.
The hard-fought
game was scoreless after regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods.
The Mavericks won all four of their tournament games with stingy defense,
yielding one goal, while scoring nine. Coach Robert Sackey said "Our
girls played their passing game and showed good composure in two very
close matches. This was their second championship game in our three
tournaments this season. They are still young, but they are developing
into a solid team."
ABSC
Fireballs U8B
Win Indoor Season at the Bladium!
Here is
another ABSC team that has become the champions of the Winter indoor
soccer league in their age group: The ABSC U-8B team - Fireballs, coached
by Behzad Golemohammadi finished an impressive Winter indoor soccer
season 2002 with eight wins in a row (61 GF/5 GA) and mostly a lot of
fun at the Alameda Bladium Sports Club. Fireballs won the championship
game with an exciting 3-1 victory over the Soccer Stars.
Congratulations
Mavericks Girls!
The Mavericks
U-12 class I girls, coached by Robert Sackey completed an undefeated
indoor soccer at the Alameda Bladium Sports Club with a thrilling 5-4
victory over the Walnut Creek Wrecking Crew. The Wrecking Crew moved
out to a 2-0 lead midway through the first half before the Mavs on the
strength of goals by stryker Paige Freiberger took a 5-2 lead at halftime.
With a furious second half rally the Wrecking Crew closed the gap to
5-4 with 5 minutes remaining in the game. This final 5 minutes was about
as intense and physical as soccer can get as the game was stopped 3
times for minor injuries. In the final minute the Wrecking Crew pulled
their goalie and brought her into the offense in a last ditch attempt
to score a tying goal. The Maverick defense anchored by the excellent
goalie work of Alexandra Krzyzosiak was up to the challenge and came
away with a 5-4 victory and the Indoor Championship in the U-12 elite
division.
Also congratulations to the
Mavericks U-12 class III girls, coached by Tom Cooper who ended up second
in their division, and to the Mavericks U-14 class I girls, coached
by Robert Sackey who ended up second in their elite division.

The
U19B Mavericks boys team -
Nomads Thanksgiving Showcase tournament
Since 1985, no ACCYSL teams
had reached the famed Nomads Thanksgiving Showcase tournament semi-finals.
The ACCYSL Mavericks U19B boys did it last week-end in San Diego. The
Nomads tournament is one of the most famous in the United States along
with the Dallas Cup and the Surf Cup. The best teams in the Far West
region compete there as well as national powers. In the U19B flight
were teams like National Vice-Champions, Regional and CYSA State Champions
River City Rush, CYSA South Powerhouses Wolfpack, JUSA, ISC, Washington
State FC United, Georgia's Redwings just to mention a few.

ACCYSL
Mavericks U15 BoysTeam - DISTRICT
IV Class 1 CHAMPIONSHIP
The U15 boys MAVERICKS-INTERNATIONAL
District IV Class 1 2001-2002 CHAMPIONS solute your (U19B Mavericks)
well fought victory. We hope that our players can follow in your footsteps.
It seems that great players run in the family.
Our championship game against
DIABLO UNITED a team formed from the ODP state team playing out of DIABLO
VALLEY was dramatic. The Mav-INT defense a superb "in goal" demonstration
by Alex Valencia stopped all 6 shots on goal and lead by Carlos Rodiguez
and fronted by Nick Garcia and sided by Lee Smith, Darin Gok and Colin
Searles the attacking defense confounded the UNITED ODP strikers. The
midfield of Corey Moffat, Rene Garcia JR, Antonio Navarro, and Spencer
Dill drove off numerous attempts of UNITED to organize a midfield attack.
This left forwards Pavel Rios, Roberto Zambrano to run counter attacks
and a myriad of passing and switching runs until Roberto was finally
fouled. In the 66th minute Robert Zambrano was fouled pushing the ball
side to side ten yards from the box. After asking the Referee for the
mandatory 10 yard Roberto drove the ball into the upper right corner
of the net just brushing both the cross bar and post for the 1-0 lead.
A well organized midfield and defense held the UNITED attack at bay
and Spencer Dill scored on a header coming off a strong counter attack
pushed by Pavel Rios. The Goal was called back by a call by the linesman
the Dill had touched the goalie as he headed the ball into the goal.
After that the Mav-Int dominated and hit the post as well as the crossbar
as the game ended.
Needless to say the 40 spectators
for the Mavericks attending the game erupted in ovation for our Players
(our children) making their 2001-2002 record 14-1-4. This win showcased
why the team has won the DISTRICT IV Class 1 CHAMPIONSHIP every year
at every age group in which they have competed.U11 U12 U13 U15
*** The U15 Boys Mavericks
