COACHES
& MANAGERS:
Game Cancellation
Procedures: If a recreational match needs to be cancelled for any
reason, the Coach or Team Manager shall immediately notify both Jerry
Nelson, the ACC Referee Coordinator, at 883-9507 and the opposing team's
Coach or Team Manager.
A scheduled game that is cancelled may be rescheduled by contacting
John Baker, ACC Recreational Match Scheduler, at 527-1347 or johnmac@pacbell.net
Rain Out Procedures:
For weather-related cancellation information, one designated person
from each team must call the ACCYSL weather report line at (510) 433-9995.
(check www.wccysl.com for rain at WCC fields). Some fields may be canceled
on Friday night, so if weather is an issue, call on Friday after 7:30
p.m. If a field has not been canceled as of Friday night, and there
is further rain during the night, it may be canceled on Saturday morning,
so call again after 8:00 a.m. on Saturday before assuming that the games
are on. Determinations as to whether to play or cancel are made by club
officials of the club that is responsible for the field. NOTE: fields
have different drainage dynamics and needs for protection. Often, games
will be canceled on one field and not on another. Do not assume because
one child's game is canceled that all games are canceled. WCC teams
do not assume that because Pinole Valley Field has been canceled that
King will be also.
"Slaughter"
Rule: The objectives of the recreational soccer program are two;
first, to focus on instruction, so that every child will improve as
a soccer player, and second, to have fun. If one team is greatly superior
to the other in any match, these objectives are often lost. Therefore,
the ACCYSL board has adopted a policy to encourage adults to restore
the objectives in games that are mismatches. Once a team obtains a lead
of four goals, the coach of that team is expected to take affirmative
steps to restore some competitive balance. Players who do not usually
get an opportunity to score should be given a chance to play attacking
positions. Stronger players should be moved to defense, goalie, or the
sideline. Coaches may also introduce other devices, such as a rule that
no shot may be taken until after there have been at least three passes,
or that each player must play the ball on the first or second touch.
The teams may even agree to exchange some players to even out the talent
on the field.
Coaches are expected
to observe these rules in good faith. The referees are under no obligation
to enforce them, though some referees may remind a coach of the obligation.
Complaints should be directed to the league disciplinary chair at (510)
433-9995.
